Formalities Before Leaving Germany
Address/Contact Points
From the above, it will become clear that it is in all employee's and accompanying spouses' interest to finalise German State pension arrangements (or establish and confirm claims) before departure from Germany. This will help to ensure the acquisition of future pension rights and delay any administrative bureaucracy after departure from Germany or on retirement/pension application in another country of residence. This can be organized at any time whilst in Germany, not necessarily just when you leave!
Two forms are required to be completed Form V100 Application to Clear Account "Antrag auf Kontenklärung". In addition, it is also currently possible to claim for full-time education years from the age of 17, for which form V410 should also be completed. These forms are available for downloading from the BfA website, also a full English translation is available from BAESG Management Office. In addition it is possible to request a statement of contribution records held for individuals; by either going in person to the BfA office, or also on their website, although there is an English-language option on this website, it has not been expanded to provide this particular service:-
- http://www.bfa.de -
- Go to "Versicherungsverlauf/Rentenauskunft"
- Go to "Versicherungsverlauf mit Antrag auf Kontenklärung"
- Input your Insurance Number (Versicherungsnummer)
- Enter - your request will be electronically sent to BfA, and within a few days you will receive a full statement of your pension contributions to date, and application forms to complete to complete your records for their files; in preparation for when you eventually retire.
Due to the attachments and official documentation required to be shown with the forms V100 and V410, it is recommended that personal appointments are made with the BfA in Munich (contact details below) where copies of the original evidence forms will be validated. Please note that advance appointments are always necessary for a consultation and due to heavy workload, appointments are at present only given approximately 2-months ahead!
Documents needed to accompany form V100 (originals+photocopies): -
- Social Insurance Number Certificate (Versicherungsnummer/ Versicherungs nachweis)
- Any Annual Contribution Statements issued throughout working time
- Birth Certificate
- Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
- Passport
- Original school certificates (university diplomas/degrees etc)*
- Children's birth certificates (if applicable)
- Residence Registration document (also de-registration if available)
*Please note that the reason the BfA request documentation for full-time education after 17th birthday (to maximum of 3-years) is that one current pension benefit in Germany is where the education years count as non-contributory periods in their system. It may therefore be to your advantage to supply this documentation. No translation required/they will certify that photocopies are true copies of originals.
STATE PENSION INFORMATION - UK:
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP - a new Department comprising in parts the former Department of Social Security) is primarily concerned with providing efficient, high quality public services. The DWP helps develop and deliver government policy on pensions: presently working towards a new pensions organisation which will deliver a unified modern service for today's pensioners; as well as an improved service for tomorrow's pensioners, which will provide accurate information to help them make better decisions about future pension provision.
The DWP manage the state pension and the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme (SERPS). They developed the detailed proposals for stakeholder pensions in conjunction with HM Treasury, drafted the relevant legislation and enabling regulations and remain responsible for publicising stakeholder pensions.
The Pension Service is a completely new organisation and is part of the Department for Work and Pensions. The new service will start to be introduced in April 2002 and will be fully operational across the UK by the end of 2003. It is being set up to improve the service we provide to our customers, whether they are already a pensioner or planning for their retirement.
http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk The Pension Service will be solely dedicated to looking after all pensions-related business, from policy development to frontline service and from changes in the law to changes in leaflets.
