Passports
Although United Kingdom is part of the European Union, you are still required to carry a full 10-year British passport with you every time you travel to a European destination. This includes day-trips and travel overseas by Eurostar. Many countries have now abandoned routine passport checks at their land borders, but they still expect visitors to be able to produce a valid form of identification, i.e. for UK citizens a Passport. Also passports are always checked at immigration control on return to UK.

The one-year British Visitor's passport no longer exists, anyone wishing to travel from UK overseas must now hold a 10-year passport.

The United Kingdom Passport Agency has its own website. This site aims to assist new applicants and existing passport holders by providing information and online facilities for all aspects of application, renewal and amendment of passports for British nationals resident in the UK. http://www.ukpa.gov.uk

Please note: The UK Passport Service deals with all passport applications from British nationals resident in the UK, if non-resident, see below.

Whilst based overseas, you may need to renew/amend/replace an existing passport. This can be administered at most British consulates.
