Moving to Germany - Check List
Deregister with UK Child Benefit (if applicable), if possible you should also obtain a statement for each child confirming the monthly Child Benefit received, from what period. (to speed up process in applying for German Child Benefit/Kindergeld)
Copies of all School Records for accompanying children
Deregister with your UK GP/Dentist - If necessary get medical reports of any on-going treatment which is to be continued when in Germany, retain records of history of vaccinations received. Also if your dentist can provide a statement of regular check-ups for previous years this can help in any future dental fee claims in Germany; for example if you have a statement of 5 years' of dental check-ups you will receive a 10% discount, and if you have 10 years' of dental check-ups you can get a further 5% discount (see Healthcare/Dentists).
Obtain form E111 from local post offices for emergency medical coverage (for all short-term assignees but also wise precaution for all arrivals before formal medical registrations have been processed).
Deregister with optician and request eyeglass/contact lense prescription.
Meet with UK Taxation Advisors : KPMG / form completion P85 plus form P45 to be sent to Inland Revenue
Retain copies of UK Payslips, from January to the date of arrival (for German taxation returns)
Keep to hand original certificates : Birth certificate, marriage certificate (if applicable), driving licence (obtain European License), divorce decree (if applicable), these will be required for registrations in Germany.
Check time remaining on all passports and update if necessary
UK Home postal redirection service (is possible to have post redirected overseas).
